    Good to know

Images are saved as high-quality JPGs (quality 90) at full size. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white, and an animated WEBP is saved as a still JPG of its first frame. The JPG can be larger than the WEBP, because WEBP compresses images more tightly. Location (GPS) details are removed if the image has any; the date taken and the camera make and model are kept.

    When you'd use this

    • Opening or editing a picture saved from a website as .webp in software that doesn't support WEBP.
    • Uploading an image to a form, marketplace or print service that only accepts JPG.
    • Putting a web image into a document or presentation made with an older version of Office.

    Privacy & security

Your file is used only to perform this conversion, in an isolated temporary workspace, and is deleted automatically as soon as the converted file is returned to you (or immediately if the conversion fails). See our Privacy notice for details.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a WEBP file?

WEBP is an image format created by Google for the web. It makes pictures smaller so pages load faster, which is why images saved from many websites arrive as .webp -- but some programs, upload forms and older devices still can't open it.

What happens to animated WEBP files?

Only the first frame is converted, as a still JPG -- the JPG format can't hold animation.

    What happens to transparent areas?

They become white, because JPG doesn't support transparency.

How many images can I convert at once?

Up to 20 at a time, with a combined upload of up to 50 MB. Several images download together in one ZIP file.

Do I need to install anything?

No -- it works in your browser on Windows, Mac, Android or iPhone. Upload your WEBP images, convert them and download the JPGs. There's no sign-up.
